"Overseas listeners told us they missed BFBS Radio 2 and the choice of programmes and music style it offered," says BFBS Radio's Controller, Nicky Ness. "We listened and we're delighted that BFBS Radio 2 is back on-air."
Simon Marlow and Richard Hutchinson present daily shows, providing more than seven hours of music, interviews and Forces stories each weekday. There'll also be Saturday and Sunday programmes presented by well-known BFBS names such as Patrick Eade, Dusty Miller and Damian Watson with a focus on the Forces community, particularly those based in Afghanistan.
"These programmes have that special BFBS Radio 2 'feel' that our listeners tell us they missed," says Nicky Ness. "It's a relaxed and friendly but knowledgeable style with room for more speech content and longer form interviews - classic BFBS Radio 2."
Damian Watson, who will run the rejuvenated service, says the station's music is "warm, melodic, and recognisable" and spans the 1960s to the present day. "Our core artists include everyone from The Beatles to Take That and Dire Straits to Jamie Cullum, giving a real choice for BFBS listeners based overseas."
Listener favourites such as the Today programme, The World at One, PM and Sitrep remain, along with sport from Five Live in the evenings and at weekends - including a return of coverage of some UEFA Champions League and Europa League football matches.
BFBS Radio 2 is available on FM in most overseas Forces locations and online with a Listen Again facility for some programmes.
Simon Marlow can be heard from 0900-1300 UK time (Mon-Fri) and Richard Hutchinson from 1330-1700 UK time (Mon-Fri), starting on 11th January 2010.
