How do we choose the BFBS Radio Playlist?
60-70 percent of the music on BFBS Radio is selected from our main playlist, decided by our Head of Music, Frank McCarthy.
The playlist contains 75 tracks which are divided into three levels:
A-list, which receives the most plays, 17 to 25 per week; B-list, between 8 to 15 plays and the C-list (brand new music each week) receiving up to 10 to 15 plays.
We also have a Z-list, which contains pre-releases of new, alternative and independent music played on weekday evenings from 7-10pm only.
The BFBS Radio playlist is one of the most varied of any radio station in the UK and can include many genres of music. Before any song can be considered for inclusion it must be commercially available in the UK.
We also have a number of Specialist music programmes, covering genres from rock to dance, pre-release and 80s music.
